Pecky Cypress Alligator
This menacing gator is cut from a rare wood called pecky sinker cypress. After cutting, he is painted black and the whole piece is sealed. The pecky holes in the cypress are made by a fungus. The fungus invades the tree when it is about 125 years old and does not die until the tree dies. The sinker part of the name means the tree fell in the river or swamp after it died and remained there for many years. This wood is is at least 500 years old, and can be as much as 2000 years old.
